We’ve an exciting announcement!  Here, Jo, a friend of Dianne and chair of our board of trustees tells us more…

Community is so important to us here at the Dianne Oxberry Trust.

As a tiny charity that (I hope you will agree) punches well above its weight, we simply couldn’t do what we do without the people in communities across the North West and beyond that support our work.

That’s why we’re thrilled that we’ve been chosen as a finalist in this year’s I Love Manchester Awards category for ‘Most-Loved Community Group’!

The category celebrates a grassroots group or project that brings people together, championing inclusivity, and making local life better.  Organisers say that it honours those who live and breathe community spirit and collective wellbeing.

For our charity, this is not an award nomination for our small team of mainly volunteers here that run the organisation.  It’s an award for everyone who has helped spread the word and raise awareness of ovarian cancer in the six years since we formed.

When my brilliant, lovely, funny and kind friend Dianne Oxberry died of ovarian cancer it had been just 10 days from her diagnosis to her death.

The shock around the speed of this tragedy is something that underpins our work in her memory today.

We want more people to be aware of the symptoms to look out for so that they can hopefully secure earlier diagnosis.

In many cases, an early diagnosis can significantly improve prognosis of ovarian cancer and it is our hope that by becoming more symptom aware, more families and friends will have more time with their loved ones than we had with Dianne.

She’d be so proud to hear that we’ve been chosen as a finalist in the forthcoming awards, and also seeing the difference communities across our region are making by spreading the word.

The winner of the award will be chosen following a public vote.  So, please would you take a minute to cast your vote for the Dianne Oxberry Trust now?

We’re really grateful, as always, for your help and support.

Thanks again and keep your fingers crossed for us!
