Soroptimist International Liverpool’s charity of the year pledge

Charity of the year partnerships mean so much to the Dianne Oxberry Trust. We really appreciate every individual, business or organisation that thinks of us and takes the time to raise much-needed funds to help us continue our work.

As a small charity, we rely on the generosity of the local communities we work within to ensure we can continue to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer with as many women as possible.

We’re therefore thrilled that Debra Curtis, president of Soroptimist International Liverpool, has chosen our charity to support this year.

In her insignia speech, Debra talked about the difficulties of the past year, but how the pandemic has also taught us the small things, recognising the importance of health and wellbeing, and acknowledging how precious and fragile life can be.

She said: “This last year has been difficult for each of us in so many ways. Perhaps, what the last year has taught us is to value the little things, a cup of tea with a friend, spontaneity, walking round the supermarket without anxiety or even fear, small acts of kindness, a hug but perhaps most of all to value friendship.

“I also believe that if we did not know already how precious and fragile life and good health are, the last year has confirmed it to each and every one.”

Speaking of the reasons behind her choice of the Dianne Oxberry Trust for fundraising and support in the coming year, Debra explained: “An important aspect of good health is recognising symptoms and early diagnosis. Three years ago my best friend died of ovarian cancer and the charity I have chosen therefore is the Dianne Oxberry Trust who work not only to raise awareness amongst women but also amongst medical professionals of this deadly disease.

“As we begin, hopefully, to restart activities we should not lose sight of those little things that mean so much and not stop carrying out the small acts of kindness that make such a difference.”

We really appreciate Debra’s kind words, and are looking forward to working closely with the Soroptimist Liverpool members as their fundraising and support continues.
