One of our trustees is racing towards a special fundraising target as she prepares to take on the London Marathon to raise much-needed funds for our charity.

Jo Rosenberg, who was a good friend of Dianne, is taking on the challenge of running the iconic marathon on 21 April, in the hope it will inspire others to also push themselves out of their comfort zone to raise awareness and donations.

She said: “At the Dianne Oxberry Trust our aim is to make as many people as possible aware of the symptoms of ovarian cancer. We want to improve early diagnosis and encourage people to be more aware of their bodies and when to flag symptoms or signs to their GP.

“We can all be guilty of ignoring those niggling pains or periods of discomfort, especially when life is busy, but it’s vital that we know when to take action.  Ovarian cancer is often called a whispering disease as its symptoms aren’t always obvious until it’s quite advanced, so learning what to look out for is so incredibly important so people can take action and book a GP appointment to discuss their concerns.

“Dianne was a fabulous, funny and beautiful woman who I was lucky enough to call my friend. She was my dog walking bestie, and we talked about anything and everything – but when it came to talking about her health we both dismissed the signs of ovarian cancer that were quietly creeping up on her.

“There were just ten short days from her diagnosis to her death and me and the other trustees who are all friends or family of Dianne are adamant that we want to help other people in her name.  We want to raise as much awareness as possible to hopefully mean that others in the North West have more time with their loved ones than we had with our amazing Dianne.

“I’ve decided to take on the London Marathon to raise funds to help us reach even more people across the North West about the symptoms to look out for.  It will be a tough challenge for sure, but knowing that every penny raised could help save someone’s life will really keep me going when it becomes tough.  I’m determined to dig deep and do everything I can to raise as much money and awareness as possible.

“Please do consider taking on a challenge this year in aid of the Dianne Oxberry Trust or making a donation to support my marathon run if you’re able.  £3 raised could help us reach 50 people locally about the symptoms to look out for – for less than a price of a cup of coffee in some cafes, you could literally save someone’s life. Thank you so much for your support.”
