A local bistro has an appetite for improving the health of local residents, after pledging its support to raise awareness of ovarian cancer in memory of Dianne Oxberry.

Starting on 1 March – as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month begins – Chez Nous Bistro, on Marsland Road in Sale, will be raising awareness of the symptoms of the disease in its restaurant, as well as appealing to customers to help them raise as much money as possible for our charity.

If ovarian cancer is diagnosed in its earliest stages, 93 per cent of people will survive for at least five years, but sadly, for many local people like Dianne, the symptoms are recognised much too late.  She was diagnosed on New Year’s Eve 2018, and sadly died just ten days later.

Niamh Lehmann from Chez Nous Bistro, a vibrant, independently owned restaurant which serves modern British cuisine, said: "After major success with our charity donations for January and February, we are honoured to choose the Dianne Oxberry Trust for our charity for the next couple of months.

"It's crucial for us as a Manchester business to be in touch with our local charities, especially ones with such an important message behind them. The diagnosis of ovarian cancer hits home for a few of us here at Chez Nous Bistro, so we are willing to do all we can to shed more light onto the signs to look out for.

"As we know, a little can go a long way, so although we are an independent restaurant, we are hoping to reach as many people to help not only with donations, but to raise even more awareness of the signs of ovarian cancer.

"The success that the Dianne Oxberry Trust has already achieved is nothing short of admirable and we appreciate the opportunity to spread the word to our lovely customers!

"We are immensely grateful for any recognition through us for this amazing charity. We pride ourselves on lovely food, great service and a cosy environment for our customers to enjoy spending time with their friends and family. Pop by, enjoy a meal and remember to look out for the signs - to help yourself and those you love."

The bistro is asking customers if they will make a £1 voluntary donation with their bill - an amount that would make a big difference when it comes to raising awareness across the local area.

Jo Rosenberg, chair of our charity, said: “Just £6 donated to our charity means that we could reach 100 local people about the symptoms they should be looking out for when it comes to ovarian cancer, so the support that the Chez Nous team are giving really will have a big impact.

“I lost my amazing friend Dianne to ovarian cancer and I’m adamant that other people locally should have more time with those closest to them than we had with her.  We miss her every day – and we get lots of messages from people across Greater Manchester and beyond who miss her too.  Many people remember her cheeky laugh, her smile and her warm presence on their TVs every evening.

“Our charity’s vision is an ambitious one.  We want a future where no-one in the North West dies from ovarian cancer.  Early diagnosis that comes from people being aware of the symptoms and seeing their GP if they’re worried really makes such a difference, which is why the help of local businesses like the amazing team at Chez Nous is so vital.

“Thanks again to them for their fabulous support.  Please do come along to the restaurant, have a delicious meal, show your support with a small donation, and – most importantly – learn the symptoms to look out for.  It could literally save your life or the life of someone you love.”
