It's Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month!
04 March 2026
Jo, our chair, tells us more about why it's so important.
Being noisy is something we won’t apologise for.
In fact, we want to raise the roof this month and shout EVEN LOUDER about the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
We will continue to bust the myth that ovarian cancer is a ‘silent killer’. It really isn’t.
Ovarian cancer symptoms whisper, but this month isn’t about whispering, it’s about shouting as loudly as possible.
A future where no-one in the North West dies from ovarian cancer is an ambitious vision, but we don’t want to settle for anything less.
With someone being diagnosed with ovarian cancer every two hours, we can’t be complacent.
Prevalence in our region is 10 per cent higher than in other parts of England and 40 percent of people are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in A&E after reaching crisis point with their symptoms.
That is what happened to my wonderful friend Dianne, and the deeply powerful desire to ensure other families and friendship groups don’t have to go through what we went through when she died just ten days after her initial diagnosis is what keeps me going.
There are so many awareness months, days and weeks that it can be easy to become complacent about them and not pay attention.
But, with ovarian cancer, making a noise and raising that awareness is absolutely central to improving early diagnosis rates.
After all, the more people that are aware of the symptoms to look out for, the more they can see their GP if they’re worried. And, 93 per cent of people diagnosed in the earliest stages of ovarian cancer live for five years or more. So, awareness raising is literally life-saving.
So, this ovarian cancer awareness month, please would you double your efforts in helping us to Spread the Word about the symptoms of ovarian cancer?
Please share our social media posts and tell all your friends to visit our website too.
And if you’re able to share some of our free symptoms postcards, leaflets or other materials we’d love you to get in touch.
Or, perhaps you could pledge to raise funds to help us reach out to even more people in the North West?
However you choose to raise awareness this Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month we’re really grateful.
Thank you.
